Reminiscences

Silent phones,
Unanswered messages,
Chats left hanging in the middle,
Promises to be right back,
Only to be broken
With an endless wait.
Busy or misplaced priorities?
But somehow,
There is always a time,
For a tweet or a FB update,
With its impenetrable words,
And inscrutable countenance.
Reminiscences hurt now,
So do reflections.
Have times changed
Or is it just us,
Busy building crowds
On gadgets with lonely hands?
The long talks, the hearty laughs,
The Kodak moments, handful and precious,
And the treasure of memories;
Fading away in chosen special effects.
Some things just never heal,
Of loss.

  1. You are right. Some things never heal. I could have written this except it wouldn't have been nearly as good. Beautiful.

  2. You're right, it is very easy for us to reach out to each other, especially with all our social media. Nice poem.

  3. Wonderful! This line... "Busy building crowds/ On gadgets with lonely hands.." was perfect. I believe we have lost a tangible connection with our friends and family, even if it's easier to communicate. There seems to be a lack of a more personal touch a written letter or phone call use to give.

    1. That was the central idea. To feel the relations, not just live them in words and messages. I am glad the words communicate it. Thank you Tara.

  4. Lush, deep, and well-written.

I like "chosen special effects". They are chosen, aren't they? Great phrase.

  5. This is great, Ruby! Online 'relationships' are certainly not the same as face to face friends. It doesn't matter if someone has hundreds of online 'followers'...I wonder how many would offer a shoulder to cry on in a time of need?

    1. Seriously Janna. What surprises me most is that how comfortable we all have suddenly become with this trend. Value of a relation is now counted in number of likes and comments one has left on his / her friends pictures.
Thank you for sharing you thoughts here Janna. Your words mean so much to me.

  6. Ruby! Exactly what I feel! In order to build relationships through technology we have forgotten the simple pleasures of a hug and meeting in person! Everything is so full of technology, even our relationships!
